Diary of a Diva | Pretty Women is 25

I am an ardent fan of Julia Roberts though I had watched only four films [Notting Hill, Erin Brockovich, Pretty Women, and Eat Pray Love] of Julia Roberts. Pretty Women is definitely the least favorite among all those four movies. Yet, today April 9th 2015, when a picture of her appeared on the online daily newspaper of The Hindu, I couldn't resist reading it. So, I read it. It was usual blah blah blah stuffs of any movie that is celebrating 25 years. At the same time, I liked this particular line in that article - As chick-lit writer Marian Keyes, says, “Relationship gurus always said that an attraction based on friendship and mutual respect was far more likely to stay the course — and they were right.” That is actually nice and I can't agree more with that.

Before Sunrise / Sunset / Midnight

I am not a great lover all Hollywood Movies. Of course, I watch many of them selectively. Recently, I came across this film 'Before Midnight' (Thanks to Sudhish Kamath (critic) who mentioned it in the list of movies he wish to watch in the International Film festivals that happened across South India). 

I watched 'Before Midnight' and I was bowled over by it. For me, it was first time to watch a movie that is only walk talk. They had sensible conversation discussing various things especially on the mid-life crisis part. Perhaps, I am about enter the 30s club, hence they sounded much needful insights.

Then, I came to know about the previous movies 'Before Sunrise' and 'Before Sunset' in this series. The main push for me to watch 'Before Sunrise' was the 'Tring Tring Tring' fake conversation because it was ripped in film Vaalee much later. Watching 'Before Sunrise' and 'Before Sunset' was again such a pleasure. Definitely all the three movies are some of the finest movies that I have seen and I recommend them very much. 

Before Sunrise

I liked many things in this movie. 

- The way Jesse gets into conversation Celine, then the talk in the tram

- Both of them at the top of the tower, just before sunset 

- Both of them listening to a song in a music shop. Both of them react to the lyrics/song and see each other when the other doesn't see.

- Both of them having the fake phone call conversation. It was beautiful. (Celine even says that 'I like to feel his eyes on me when I look away') 

- The night walk along the canal. Subsequently getting a poem written by a person there.

- The night in the park.

- Things they speak after sunrise . (Jesse remarks 'real time' - meaning last night was a dream kind).

Before Sunset

- While addressing his readers, Jesse gives a reaction on seeing Celine outside the shop. Awesome.

- Celine's reaction when she learns that Jesse waited for her on Dec 6

- All their talks in the walk. And the talks in the cruise. 

- Celine's tells that she was crying for both things 1) for her granny's death 2) for not going to meeting Jesse anymore in life

- Both of them confess that they would have wished they had met on that day and the life would have been lot better. 

- Celine says that, it was as if she had put all the romance in that one single night

- They both discuss in car. Celine talks about her ex-boyfriends and relationship breakups. Jesse says about his lifeless marriage and wished Celine was her.

- Subsequently, Celine hugs Jesse. Jesse decides to go to Celine's house. Jesse asks her to sing a song. Celine sings a song with lyrics meaning that both of them were together. Celine subsequently imitating a singer playfully. Celine says 'Babe, you are going to miss the flight'. Jesse says 'I know' - meaning he is going to say back with her. 

- In the car, Celine tries to touch Jesse's head. But stops within a second. 

I only wished that, I had watched these movies much earlier.

Before Midnight

- The conversation along the way after dropping Jesse's sun at the airport

- The conversation with friends in the table

- The conversation leading to the Hotel

- The fight they have at the hotel

- The way Jesse convinces Celine finally

One line that I liked very much in 'Before Sunset' is Memory is a wonderful thing, if we don't have to deal with the past.

One thing that I was looking for a long time. Got the verses for it.

One who knows the transcendental nature of My appearance and activities does not, upon leaving the body, take his birth again in this material world, but attains My eternal abode

Sathya prabaava divya prakaasa manthra swaroopa mathram..

The one who is like the flow of truth. The one who glows with sacred light. The one with the form of the sacred hymns.

Nishprapanchaadhi nishkalankoham nija poorna bodhaham ham..

The one who is beyond the sphere of multiplicity. The one who is beyond all filth (the one who is pure). The one who is the real complete whole.

Gadhya Gadhmaagam Nithya Bramhogam Swapna Kasogamham Ham

The one who is to be seized (by devotees). The one who is ever Brahman (the whole). The one who is present in our dreams.

Sachit Pramanam Om Om Moola Pramegyam Om Om

The one who is the proof of the being and the awareness. The one who is the object of knowledge.

Ayam Bramhasmi Om Om Aham Bramhasmi Om Om

This soul is the Brahman. I am Brahman (Brahman here is the ultimate god who is in everyone and who made everything).

சில நேரங்களில் சில மனிதர்கள்

திரு.ஜெயகாந்தன் அவர்கள் எழுதிய மகத்தான நாவல் சில நேரங்களில் சில மனிதர்கள். இந்நாவல் சிறப்பு வாய்ந்த சாஹித்திய அகாடமியின் விருதை பெற்றது. பின்பு 1975ஆம் ஆண்டில் திருமதி.லஷ்மி மற்றும் திரு.ஸ்ரீகாந்த் ஆகியோரின் சிறப்பான நடிப்பில் நாவலின் பெயர்க் கொண்டே திரைப்படமாய் வெளிவந்தது. இவை பெரும்பாலவனர்களுக்கு தெரிந்தவையே.

 

நேற்று இப்படத்தை யூடுயுபில் பார்த்தேன்.  முதலில் நான்கு நாட்களில் பார்க்கலாம் என்று தான் இருந்தேன். முந்தாநாள் முதல் அரை மணி நேரம் பார்த்தேன். நேற்றும் இரண்டாவது அரை மணி நேரம் பார்க்கலாம் என நினைத்தேன். ஆனால் படம் என்னை கட்டிப்போட்டுப் ஒரே வீச்சில் பார்க்கச் செய்தது. 

கண்டிப்பாய் சொல்ல வேண்டும். தரமான படம். இன்று நான் துயிலில் இருந்து எழும் வரை நேற்று இரவு உறக்கத்தில் இப்படம் என் நினைவில் எதிரொலித்துக் கொண்டே இருந்தது. இப்பொழுதும். என்னை மிகுந்த ஒரு சலனத்தில் இருந்து தெளிவுப்படுத்திய உணர்வை இப்படம் கொடுத்தது என்று சொல்வேன். இது பீம்சிங்ப் போன்ற இயக்குனர் கையாண்ட விதம் போற்றுதலுக்குரியது. 

அனைத்து கதாபாத்திரங்களுக்கும் அற்புதமான கதாபாத்திர வடிவமைப்பு. அனைவரும் ஒப்பனை என்று சொல்லாதவகையில் உடலும் சதையுமாய் நடித்திருந்தனர். குறிப்பாக லஷ்மி கங்காவாகவும் ஸ்ரீகாந்த் ப்ரபுவாகவும் வாழ்ந்திருந்தார்கள். கங்காவின் மாமாவாக வை.ஜி.பார்த்தசாரதியும், ஸ்ரீகாந்தின் மகள் மஞ்சுவாக ஜெயகீதா மனதில் பதிகின்றனர்.

இப்படிபட்ட துணிவான கதைக்களத்தில் 1975ஆம் ஆண்டிலேயே இப்படம் வந்தது ஆச்சர்யம் தான். இன்று இப்படி ஆண் பெண் உறவையும் அதில் உள்ள உளவியலையும் முன்னிலைப் படுத்தி திரைப்படம் வெளிவருமா என்றென்பது கேள்வியளவே இருக்கின்றது.  இன்றும் இதுப் போன்ற திரைப்படங்கள் வரவேற்பைப் பெற்றாலும் திரையரங்குகளில் வெற்றிப் பெறுவதில்லை என்பது வருத்தத்துக்குரிய நிலையாகும்.

 

  

கண்டிப்பாய் பார்க்க வேண்டிய படம். அதுவும் 17 முதல் 20 வயதிற்குள் இருப்பவர்கள் பார்க்கவேண்டிய படம். இந்த நாவலை படிக்கலாம் என்று சென்ற மாதம் வாங்கினேன். இன்னும் படிக்கவில்லை. கண்டிப்பாய் படம் தொட்ட ஆழத்தை விட இன்னும் ஆழமாய் தொட்டிருக்கும் என்று நினைக்கிறேன்.

பொருள்: ஒருதலைப் பட்சமாகக் பேசக் கூடாது.

A Separation

For the first time in my 6 years of blogging, I am blogging about a movie I watched. Last night, I watched an Iranian film 'A Separation'. I refrain from reviewing the movie. It is best in its own rights. It is an intricate, complex, intimate and non-simplified/simplistic film. One thing (IMO) that stands out in the movie is the poignant Termeh (played by Sarina Farhadi), a 11-year old daughter of the lead characters of the film.  Termeh excellently displayed the mental trauma, grave pain when her parents separate. I recommend this movie to everyone, especially, to the people who are filing divorce.
