மடலூர்தல் யாமத்தும் உள்ளுவேன் [Thirukkural Link at the end]

Is it time? This weekend I learnt about this song ‘Rati Sukha Sare’ (translation and video are in appendix) (of Poet Jayadev’s Geeta Govind /Astapathi / Krishna’s Love songs) from my favorite writer Jeyamohan. I found a soulful rendition of that song by Mrs.Niranjana Srinivasan in youtube. When I was wandering in that paradise, thought about getting immersed in the Ocean of Love (Kammathuppaal of Thirukkural by Thiruvalluvar). When I was neck deep in it wrote a prose of this couplet (meaning in comments) thinking about the charming girl.

இது தான் நேரமோ தெரியவில்லை. பிறந்தநாளிற்கு ஓர் நாள் முன்பு எனது ஆஸ்தான எழுத்தாளர் ஜெயமோகன் மூலமாக (ஜெயதேவ-இன் கீத்கோவிந்தில் / அஷ்டபதியில்) “ரதி சுக சாரே கதம் அபி சாரே” என்ற பாடலை பற்றி அறிந்தேன். பின்பு யூட்யூபில் தேடி கடைசியில் ஸ்ரீமதி நிரஞ்சனா ஸ்ரீனிவாசன் ஆத்மாத்மார்த்தமாக நன்கு பாடிய நல்ல அப்பாடலை கேட்டேன். அவ்வின்ப வெள்ளத்தில் தத்தளிக்கும் நான் ஏன் நாம் வள்ளுவனின் இன்பத்துப்பாலில் திளைக்கக்கூடாது என்று என் மங்கல் ராதையை மிகுதியாக உள்ளியதால் ஒரு குறள் எடுத்து எழுத முற்பட்டேன்! அதன் மடல் இதோ (சுட்டியை தட்டவும்)

Rati Suka Sare [Translation/Meaning of Lyrics]

Oh Radha, Krishna is sitting in the same cottage where you met happily before. He is chanting your name like Mantra incessantly. He is yearning to enjoy the happiness of your embrace.

Oh dear Radha, go quickly to meet your beloved Krishna who is beautiful like Manmadha.The breeze is blowing gently. Krishna is waiting in Brundavana on the bank of Yamuna river. His hands play on the breasts of Gopikas. 

Krishna is playing flute calling your name, indicating where he was waiting for you. He admires even the breeze passing over you and reaching him.

He is alarmed even when a feather or dry leaf drops. He is setting on bed of tender leaves and is excited about your arrival.

Oh Radha, leave off your anklets lest they make noise when you meet him. Please go to that bower during night in black dress. 

When you meet Krishna your pearl necklaces fall on his chest. You shine like lightening on his chest which resembles dark clouds with white Sarasa birds.

Your eyes are beautiful like lotus flower. You are treasure of beauty lying on bed of tender leaves. You are bestower of happiness. 

Krishna is a person with self-respect. The night is ending He would be angry if you make delay. Go soon and fulfill his wish. 

Poet Jayadeva tells this delightful story of love between Radha and Krishna with utmost devotion. Oh devotees, bow to the most benevolent lord Krishna with pious hearts.

Meaning of the Couplet(Thirukkural)

My maiden perhaps thinks that now the night has set in, I would not be thinking of the act of riding the palm-horse. She is ignorant to understand my resolve; even in the middle of the night, I am only thinking of that without closing the lids of my eyes, says the man, making the intensity of his love known to her.

This way, he tries to let her know not only his mind but further his sleepless state, desiring her, perhaps, in a way to infuse sense of guilt in her.

நான் பகல் வேளையில் மடலூர்தலை பற்றி நினைத்துக்கொண்டு இருப்பேன் இரவில் நினைக்க மாட்டேன் என்று நினைக்கும் அறிவில்லா பேதையே! நான் நள்ளிரவிலும் இமை மூடாமல் கண்விழித்து உன்னை எண்ணி எண்ணி மிக தெளிவாகவும் உறுதியாகவும் மனதில் நினைத்து கொண்டிருப்பது என்ன தெரியுமா ? எனக்குப் பிடித்த பாடல்

’எனக்குப் பிடித்த பாடல்’ 2003-இல் வெளிவந்த பாடல். இத்தனை ஆண்டுகளில் ஒருதடவை கூட அதனை நான் கேட்டது இல்லை. தற்ச்செயலாக ஐ-பெட்-இல் எனது தம்பி பதிவிறக்கம் செய்து இருந்தான். அதை கேட்டேன். வரிகளில் மெய் மறந்தேன். மிகவும் பிடித்த வரிகளை பெரிதுப்படுத்தி உள்ளேன். :)

எனக்குப் பிடித்த பாடல்

அது உனக்கும் பிடிக்குமே

எங்கிருந்து வந்தாயடா?

இன்று காலை ஏனோ மிதிவண்டியில் அலுவலும் வருகையில் எங்கிருந்தோ இப்பாடல் என் உதடுகளில் வந்தது. பல மாதங்களுக்கு பின் ஒரு திரைப்பாடல் தனை பதிவு செய்கிறேன்.

இந்தப் பாடல் என்னில் எப்போதும் ஒலிக்கும் ஒரு பாடல். நான் கல்லூரியில் படிக்குமோது வந்த திரைப்படம் 5-ஸ்டார். இந்தப் படத்தில் இன்னும் இரண்டுப்பாடல்கள் (ரயிலே ரயிலே, திரு திருடா திரு திருடா) எனக்கு பிடிக்கும். இப்பாடல் அந்நாட்களிலேயே எனக்கு பிடிக்கும். இப்பொழுதும்.

இந்த பாடல் எப்பொழுதும் வரும் (ஆண்கள் பிரிவால் வாடும்) பாடகளைவிட சற்று வித்தயாசமானது. ஹிந்துஸ்தானி இசைச் சாயல் இருக்கும். ஒரு பெண் ஏங்குவதுப் போன்ற பாடல்கள் அக்காலத்தில் (இக்காலத்திலும்) குறைவே. ஆதலாலே இது இன்னும் சிறப்பு பெரும். 

படத்தில் தலைமகனுக்கும் தலைமகளுக்கும் நடுவில் சொல்லிக்கொள்ளும் படியான நேரடி ஊடல் இல்லை. ஆனால் தலைமகன் தலைமகளை விட்டுப் பிரிந்துச் சென்றமையால் தலைமகள் பிரிவால் வாடுகிறாள். அப்போது ஒரு கல்யாண நிகழ்ச்சியில் தலைமகள் பாடும் பாடல். முதலில் இது ஒரு கல்யாணப் பெண் பாடுவது போல் இருக்கும். ஆனால் கடைசியில் விழாக்களில் இவள் தனித்திருக்கிறாள்  என்று பாடும்பொழுது  அவளை அறியாமலையே அவளுள் உள்ள சோகம் வெளிவந்துவிடும். பின்பு அந்தப் பாடலை முதலில் இருந்துப் பார்த்தாள் அவளின் சோகம் முதல் வரியில் இருந்து தென்படுகின்றது என்பது புரியும். இதனை ஒரு பெண் கவிஞர் (தாமரை) எழுதியது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

Vaishnav Jan To [One Who is a Vaishnav]

Vaishnav Jan To, sung by Bharat Ratna Shrimathi M.S.Subbulakshmi, is a song that freezes me everytime I listen to it. M.S.Subbulakshmi has given so much soul to such excellent lyrics. It was roughly in early 2008 I listened to this song, since then it has always been in my playlist. I listened to this again today and felt crying. Many singers have sung Vaishnav Jan To. But the one by M.S.S stands out. She is a legend. Her lesser known erraticaly written part of life has been excellently perceived in an essay by writer Mr.Jeyamohan at ஓர் அக்கினிப்பிரவேசம்  (click)

ஏன் என்று தெரியவில்லை நேற்று காலை வண்டியில் அலுவலகம் செல்லும் பொழுது இப்பாடலை வாய்விட்டுப் பாட ஆரம்பித்தேன். ஆனால் கடந்த இரு நாட்களாக இப்பாடலை மனதுள் பாடிக்கொண்டே இருக்கிறேன். நெஞ்சின் மிக அருகில் உள்ள சில வரிகள் இதோ. 

நீலத்தை பிரித்து விட்டால் வானத்தில் ஏதுமில்லை;
தள்ளி தள்ளி நீ இருந்தால் சொல்லிக்கொள்ள வாழ்க்கை இல்லை;

ஜீவன் வந்து சேரும் வரும் வரை தேகம் போல் நான் கிடப்பேன் ;
தேவி வந்து சேர்ந்துவிட்டால் ஆவி கொண்டு நான் நடப்பேன்.

நித்தம் சொல்வேன் என்னுள் அவள் இருக்கிறாள். அவளை தவிர வேர் யாரும் இப்பாடலில் எனக்கு தெரியவில்லை.

ஆனந்த யாழை மீட்டுகிறாள் [She is playing the happy music]

At last, Nagamani, along with his family, visited our home at Pondicherry last weekend. And incidentally Sai Prithvi, as well, along with his family, made a quick visit to our home. Prithvi’s daughter Mrithika aka Meethu was a cute little kid just dancing on the road as any toddler does. She had fun in jumping over the small elevation of steps and getting down the steps at outer viewing point of Auroville. She was walking on the foot path easily but we have to go beyond her nevertheless I didn’t get tired by that. Those chirpy sounds that her shoes makes while she walks were more than music. She got easily attached to me and didn’t hesitate or cry much. When she smiles, those little tooth were pleasure to. And on Saturday evening, Nagamani finally arrived. His daughter Yaazhini (Yaalini) what an angel she is. She also easily got attached to me on the very first time I called her. Of course there were share of hesitation and cry but we could manage it. When we say her, pray God, she just looks up looking for the frames of God (as they used to be in their home). While her parents went inside the Aurobindo Ashram, she was sleeping me over my shoulders. Due to lack of such opportunities like that in my life so far, not sure when before a kid was sleeping like that on me. She sleeps, adjusts her head from left position to right position and over time slides down. That’s when I realized that, Oh! even for sleeping a kid we need to learn many techniques. But those 10-15 minutes was sheer joy for me. When in car, along with her mom, she would identify me, sitting in the back, and shake hands with me and when I decided to pull her back, she was willing to come but, at last moment, she changed her mind. Similarly, she was his father and I was going around near her. She quickly turned her head and changed her position. When enquired about it, I came to know that it is to safeguard that I don’t lift her from her father. What an intelligent girl. All these wonderful moments are really awesome and makes me envious of all fathers and mothers. Honestly, I was tempted to get married and quickly have a girl. But I said to myself - Tempting but not now. Last night, when I returned from Pondicherry to Bangalore, I listened to Anandha Yaazhai (from Thanga Meengal) at an altogether different level and it was awesome.

P. S: Both Sai Prithvi’s wife and Nagamani’s wife affirmed that their kids don’t go to a stranger immediately but they got attached to you so easily. I had to say “En kitta vara ellaa pon kozhandaigaloda petrorgal elaarume ippadi thaan solraanga” (All the parents of the kids tell me the same).

I must thank Sai Prithvi and Nagamani for having visited my home this weekend. It was great.

I fairly remember, I used to acknowledge myself that this song "தென் மதுரை வைகை நதி" as my favorite song during my high school days. Those days I used to sing it incorrectly like "செம்மதுரை கை நதி" until I corrected myself during my college days while I used to listen  it in my PC. Earlier I used to like this song for tune, lyrics, singers. And now I write this here in my blog because I am able to associate myself more with the lyrics of the song. I dedicate this blog post to my brother and Egyptian lotus.
